On Tuesday, I’m Underwhelmed By Batman

The Dark Knight: Overrated (Excepting Heath Ledger)

Caught the new Batman movie this afternoon with my son. Despite liking the hell out of Batman Begins, I found The Dark Knight pretty underwhelming.  The action was ok I suppose, but the fight scenes were edited so tightly as to be kind of hard to follow.  Christian Bale was actually boring, and I was a big fan of his, so that kinda sucked. And it was loooong.  Really, really long. I had to piss wildly for the last 45 minutes or so, and my son wouldn’t let me leave, so that sucked too.  Plus the story was kind of wacky, with some plot holes and a few “no way would he have done that” moments. And what the hell was with the eyeliner on the mayor, anyway? Jeez that was creepy. It was like Eartha Kitt’s makeup on the series.

Looks great on Eartha Kitt.

Looks great on Eartha Kitt.

On Gotham's Mayor, not so much.

On Gotham's mayor, not so much.

But, and I hate to admit it because I don’t want to look like one of the traditional silly gooses that praises the work of a dead guy just because he’s dead (which reminds me of Al Pacino getting the Oscar for “Scent of a Woman” even thought he BLEW in that movie; he got it because he deserved one for “Dog Day Afternoon”, or maybe Godfather I or II (not III of course)), Heath Ledger was fucking awesome.  Really, reallly awesome. So awesomely awesome that I not only liked his performance the best, but I think I liked The Joker more than Batman (and hey, he did have a point you know.)

So I give the movie 3 out of 5 bones, and Heath Ledger the full 5 bone destroy-the-fan-blades award. And before you say anything, it’s just too obvious a joke to make, so save it.

Yeah, the eyeliner really bothered me but the MV Agusta saved it for me in the end. Also, I find Maggie Gyllenhall seriously unattractive. Sorry ladies but I don’t spend my hard earned money to see movies with unattractive female leads. I would rather have seen brother Jake in that role doin’ it Brokeback style.

The MV - forgot about that. It was a relief to see him ride that instead of the ungainly looking batbike. Speaking of which, could they have drawn out the scene of the car turning into the bike any more? It took like 20 fucking minutes.

Damn, I need to go see the movie so I can have something semi-intelligent to say here (or take some smart pills, but seeing the movie is easier and cheaper).
